How Do I Join Crown?
: Information for Youths
: Information for Adults

Crown Scout Troop was officially registered during 1921, although Troop records go back as far as 1916. Since then, the Scout section has been joined by four additional sections: Cub Scouts, Venture Scouts (ceased 2002), Beaver Scouts and Explorer Scouts (from 2002).

The UK national programme review, which saw a complete change in the training programme and training section structure, took effect during 2002. The existing Venture Scout section ceased to exist, and the all-new Explorer Scout section was created, catering for members aged 14-18.

Scouting at Crown

Young people may join Crown at any time, from age 6 onwards, and will become members of the section appropriate to their age. Browse through the Training Sections pages for more details about the fun that our training sections get up to! We're confident you'll enjoy your stay with us!

Young people aged 6-18 should check-out the Information for Youths page for further details about becoming a member of Crown Group. Adults (aged 18+) wishing to become adult leaders, skills instructors or helpers should review the Information for Adults page in the first instance.

Tell Me About Crown Group's Training Sections

The Beaver Scout Colony The Beaver Scout Colony (core ages 6-8)
Catering for the needs of the Movement's youngest members, the Beaver Colony's motto of 'Fun and Friends' means a programme of games, crafts, and making new friends! Beavers meet for about 1 hour each week, and occasionally take part in weekend activities with Crown's older sections and Beavers from other colonies.
The Cub Scout Pack The Cub Scout Pack (core ages 8-10)
When young people join the Cub Pack, they become a member of a smaller group of Cubs, called a Six, led by a Sixer and Seconder. This is a taster for the Scout Troop's Patrol System. Cubs meet for about 1½ hours each week, and participate in a wide variety of activities and camps. The Cub Pack is also invited to attend Summer Camp for 2 days with the Scouts.
The Scout Troop The Scout Troop (core ages 10-14)
When Cubs turn age 10, they can move up to the Scout Troop, and join a Patrol led by the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. Scouts meet for about 2 hours each week, and participate in a varied and adventurous programme of outdoor activities & camps. The key to a successful Scout Troop is the use of Baden Powell's famous 'Patrol System'.
The Explorer Scout Unit The Explorer Scout Unit (core ages 14-18)
Young people aged 14-18 can join the Explorer Unit, which caters for the needs of young adults by means of a programme of adventurous and social activities, leading to the Queen's Scout Award, the highest award that can be gained. Explorers meet for about 2 hours each week, and undertake a varied programme of local, national and international activities.
