Beaver Colony
Welcome to the exciting world of the beaver scout.  Inverness city and the surrounding Highlands offer the active beaver scout a unique and unsurpassed opportunity to enjoy and experience the area's unspoilt and wild environment and culture.

Beaver scouts get the opportunity to join in many fun and adventurous activities including sleepovers, visits, games, meeting new people... The list goes on!

The Beaver Colony Programme
The beaver scout colony section has a balanced programme and also offers awards and badges:

Programme Zones

Beliefs and Attitudes
This zone provides opportunities to explore and develop Scouting values, personal attitudes and a range of beliefs.
Community
This zone helps beaver scouts explore the community in which they live, discovering local people, places and facilities. It also gives them the opportunity to offer help and service.
Fitness
This zone focuses on activities to improve fitness, promote personal health and increase awareness of personal safety. It should provide young people with the opportunities to participate in a variety of games and to improve their skills in a range of physical pursuits.
Creative
This zone provides opportunities for young people to display their creativity through art, music, drama, design, worship and leadership.
Global
This zone helps beaver scouts to discover the similarities and differences in lifestyle, cultures and environments, both locally and from around the world. It helps them make a difference.
Outdoor and Adventure
In this, the largest zone, are all the activities connected with camping and the great outdoors. This zone is full of opportunities to learn not just the traditional Scouting skills associated with hiking and camping, but also those needed for other adventurous activities.

Awards and Badges
When you join, the first challenge is to gain your membership award. This helps you to understand what it means to be a beaver scout. When you are invested, you will be given the world membership badge, to show that you have taken your promise.

Activity badges
Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow beaver scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests. Click here to view all 12 activity badges available for beaver scouts to achieve.

Challenge Badges
Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the colony or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world. These are:

The highest award beaver scouts can achieve is the Chief Scout’s Gold Bronze.

Staged Activity Badges
The staged activity badges have been designed to provide a unified approach throughout the sections. There are six activity badges staged across the sections. This means that a young person can gain whichever badge is appropriate to the level they have reached. It is possible, for example, for a beaver scout who is an excellent swimmer to gain a higher level badge than a beaver scout who has just taken up the activity. Click here to view all six staged activity badges.

Partnership Awards
These awards encourage each section to link up with another section within a Scout Group, a section in another Group, or another youth group or organisation, to work together on a project that will help other people. There are:
