think of then an Explorer Scout unit somewhere will be doing it!
Young people get to have their say about what happens in the
unit through regular unit and district events where
young people are invited to attend and contribute their ideas. We are always ready to welcome prospective members, so get in touch today,

The explorer scout section has a balanced programme and also offers awards and badges:
This zone provides opportunities to explore and develop Scouting values, personal attitudes and a range of beliefs. It is at the heart of all our Scouting activities.
This zone helps explorer scouts explore the community in which they live, discovering local people, places and facilities. It also gives them the opportunity to offer help and service.
This zone focuses on activities to improve fitness, promote personal health and increase awareness of personal safety. It should provide young people with the opportunities to participate in a variety of games and to improve their skills in a range of physical pursuits.
This zone provides opportunities for young people to learn new skills that relate to many aspects of their lives. This can range from meteorology to wildlife conservation practices and techniques, and from leadership skills to creative activities.
This zone helps Scouts to discover the similarities and differences in lifestyle, cultures and environments, both locally and from around the world. It helps them understand how to make a difference.
In this, the largest zone, are all the activities connected with camping and the great outdoors. This zone is full of opportunities to learn not just the traditional Scouting skills associated with hiking and camping, but also those needed for other adventurous activities such as climbing, caving, canoeing and sailing.
When you join, the first challenge is to gain your
membership award. This helps you to understand what it means to be an
explorer scout. When you are invested, you will be given the
world membership badge, to show that you have taken your promise.
Many of the badges available are activity badges, which represent the pinnacle of achievement in a particular field. Whether their interests lie in
hill walking or performing arts, aviation or
public relations, explorers are rewarded both for developing existing strengths and undertaking new ventures.

The three main awards in explorer scouts are the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond
awards, and the Queen’s Scout award. Each
award is closely linked to the Duke of Edinburgh’s
award.
There are three partnership awards, which are open to any age group. These involve the
unit working with the other training sections to complete a project. These
awards are:
If you are over 16, you can also complete the
explorer belt. The belt is awarded for completing a ten-day expedition in another country.
One of many aspects of the explorer scout provision is the introduction of the
young leaders scheme. Details of this scheme in this area are available from the
district explorer scout commissioner.
