Scouts get the opportunity to join in many fun and adventurous activities including camping,
sailing, climbing, canoeing, abseiling, international... The list goes on! In essence, if there is
an activity that you can think of then a scout
troop somewhere will be doing it!
Young People get to have their say about what happens in the
troop through regular troop and
district events where young people are invited to attend and contribute their ideas.

The scout section has a balanced programme and also offers awards and badges:
Provides opportunities to explore and develop Scouting values, personal attitudes and a range of beliefs.
Helps scouts explore the community in which they live, discovering local people, places and facilities. It also allows them to offer help and service.
Activities to improve fitness, promote personal health and increase awareness of personal safety.
Provides opportunities for young people to display their creativity through art, music, drama, design, worship and leadership.
Helps scouts discover the similarities and differences in lifestyle, cultures and environments, both locally and from round the world.
All the activities connected with camping, the great outdoors and those needed for adventurous activities such as climbing, caving, canoeing and sailing.
When you join, the first challenge is to gain your membership award. This helps you to understand what it means to be a
scout. When you are invested, you will be given the
world membership badge, to show that you have taken your promise.
Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests. Click here to view all 69 activity badges available for

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the
troop or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world. These are:
The highest award in scouts is the
Chief Scout’s Gold award.
The staged activity badges have been designed to provide a unified approach throughout the sections. There are six activity badges staged across the sections. This means that a young person can gain whichever badge is appropriate to the level they have reached. It is possible, for example, for a
beaver Scout who is an excellent swimmer to gain a higher level badge than a
scout who has just taken up the activity.
